Just 45 minutes from Jamestown is the Clare Valley, one of Australia’s great wine regions. Opportunities for tastings abound. Visit the boutique brewery Hop & Vine or taste a truffle at Sugar Rush.

Take a step back in history on a tour of historic Sevenhill Cellars, founded by the Austrian Jesuits in 1851.  The tour takes in Sevenhill’s underground cellar, old-vine vineyards, St Ignatius of Loyola Shrine and St Aloysius Church with its underground crypt.

Bring your bike (or rent one) and follow the famed Riesling Trail, cycling between cellar doors. Visit majestic colonial homes such as Martindale Hall, or ‘lose’ your kids in the Mintaro Maze.

At Spalding spot fly fishermen catching trout and Murray cod in the Broughton River.
